QS World University Rankings: 3 Indian institutes in top 200

India emerging a 'Vishvaguru', says Ramesh Pokhriyal

June 10: Three Indian Universities have achieved top-200 positions in London- based QS released its 18th edition World University Rankings 2022 on June 8. IISc Bengaluru ranked number 1 in the world for research, while the Indian Institute of Technologyc(IIT), Guwahati, is ranked 41st globally in the category. As per the 18th edition of the “world’s most-consulted international university rankings”, India Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, is ranked 177th best overall is India’s top ranked institution for the fourth consecutive year. Meanwhile, IIT Delhi, the second best institute in India, has risen from 193rd position last year to 185th position this year in the global ranking.

“Today, I’m extremely proud to share that India is taking a leap in the field of education and research and is emerging as a VISHVAGURU,” Dr.Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Cabinet Minister for Education, GOI tweeted. Lauding the institute, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar in his social media handle said: “Proud of Indian Institute of Science, IISc Bangalore, to achieve the first rank as a research university with the perfect 100 score on CPF measure.”

In a Tweet, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Congratulations to IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi. Efforts are underway to ensure more universities and institutions of India scale global excellence and support intellectual prowess among the youth.”

QS uses six indicators to compile the ranking: Academic reputation (AR), employer reputation (ER), citations per faculty (CPF), faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio. This year, rankings listed the world’s top 1,300 universities – 145 more than in the last year’s edition, which can be found in 97 locations. Of 13,000 institutions, 6,415 were found eligible for the survey analysis, and 1,705 were assessed for the final table.
