Assam govt appoints guardian ministers for all districts, Parimal gets Kxj & Hkd, Cachar goes to Singhal

May 26: The Assam Cabinet on Wednesday appointed 13 ministers who would act as guardians for different districts in the state. These ministers are appointed to implement government policy decision, administrative reforms and other welfare schemes for the public, to review implementation of all centrally sponsored schemes and state own priority programme and to deliver justice/decision making in a quick manner on the applications received from general public of the district.

These guardian ministers shall visit once in a month to the district head quarter. Apart from mandatory visits, they will visit district during emergency situations. They will visit/inspect atleast one circle office during the above visit and also they will submit a report to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. They will prepare a ‘’Vision document” for their respective district with the help of district administration and other line department. They will recommend district specific matter where budget provision is required.

The guardian ministers appointed for various districts are:
1. Ranjit Kumar Das – Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Barpeta
2. Atul Bora – Dibrugarh Tinsukia
3.Urkhao Gwra Brahma – Baksa, Chirang
4.Chandra Mohan Patowary – Darrang, Kamrup, Kamrup (M)
5.Parimal Suklabaidya – Karimganj, Hailakandi, Hojai
6.Keshab Mahanta – Golaghat, Morigaon
7.Ranuj Pegu – Jorhat, Sivasagar
8.Ashok Singhal – Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Cachar
9.Jogen Mohan – West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao
10. Sanjay Kishan – Dhemaji, North Lakhimpur
11.Ajanta Neog – Nalbari, Sonitpur, Biswanath
12.Pijush Hazarika – Nagaon, Sonitpur, Biswanath
13.Bimal Bora – Majuli, Charaideo, Bajali

Earlier, there was a provision of in-charge ministers, but their specific roles and responsibilities were not clearly defined. The guardian ministers will follow the decisions taken by the Cabinet about their duties. The guardian ministers will be assigned with a secretary each.

Ashok Singhal who represents the Dhekiajuli constituency is the new Guwahati Development, Urban Development, Irrigation Minister in Himanta Biswa Sarma led-Cabinet. He has been entrusted the onus as the guardian minister of Cachar along with Kokrajhar, Udalguri.
