Barak Valley registers 721 Covid +ve cases on Monday; 3 deaths at SMCH
Active cases 2,942 in Barak Valley
May 17: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 721 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 568 positive cases. At present, there are 2,942 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 453 positive cases (It was 430 on Sunday)
- Karimganj: 148 positive cases (It was 62 on Sunday)
- Hailakandi: 120 positive cases (It was 76 on Sunday)
A total of 453 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Monday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 4,768 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 293 persons were found positive, whereas 160 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Monday night. With this, the total number of Covid cases in 2021 reached 4,721 in 2021, whereas during the year, 3,186 patients were discharged. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,502. It needs mention here that the total number of positive cases detected on Sunday was 430.
Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours witnessed demise of 03 more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. All the 03 deceased at SMCH during the last 24 hours are from Cachar district.
The deceased were identified as: Moynamati Teli (50) from Nutan Ramnagar in Cachar district, Sitangshu Sekhar Bhattacharjee (85) from Arunachal in Cachar district and Sarodindu Roy (52) from Dwarbond in Cachar.
Hailakandi registered 120 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. Of the 120 positive cases detected on Monday, 115 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 05 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 760 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,865 RAT tests and 37 RT-PCR tests were done. 65 patients were discharged during the day.. It needs mention here that 76 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Sunday. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 4,617.
As of now, in the 18 plus category, 5,130 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine. In the 45 plus category, 46,150 have received the 1st dose of the vaccine, whereas, 15,057 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.
Karimganj registered the highest spike of 148 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 6,004. Of the 148 active cases detected on Monday, 127 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 21 under RT-PCR. It needs mention here that on Sunday, 62 persons were detected as coronavirus positive in Karimganj district.
The district has currently 680 active COVID-19 cases while 143 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Monday. 1,595 swab samples were collected on Monday. Altogether 2,50,729 samples have been tested so far. 40 persons with high risk contacts traced and tested on Monday. Five containment zones have come up in Karimganj town on Sunday.
On Monday, out of 91,481 tests, 6,394 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 3,35,023. The positivity rate in the state is 6.99 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,100 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 92 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. This is the highest single day death toll recorded in the state since the outbreak of the pandemic. With this, the death toll in the state reached 2,271.
Further, during the day,92 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 92 deceased, 26 are from Kamrup Metro; 11 from Kamrup Rural; 7 from Sonitpur; 6 from Darrang; 5 each from Cachar, Dibrugarh & Tinsukia; 3 each from Barpeta, Nalbari, Nagaon & Sivasagar; 2 each from Golaghat, Charaideo, Hojai, & Jorhat; 1 each from Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Karbi Anglong & Morigaon. The death tally of the state now stands at 2,271.
