220 persons test Covid-19 +ve in Cachar till 6.30 PM on Tuesday; 2 dies at SMCH
People violating norms of home isolation, says Dist Health Department
May 11: A total of 220 new cases of COVID-19 was reported till 6.30 PM on Tuesday in Cachar. The number of positive cases is expected to rise towards the night. During the day, 2,617 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, 203 persons were found positive, whereas 17 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Tuesday evening.
Further, during the day, 266 air passengers arrived at Silchar Airport, who did Covid test at Tikal Model Hospital, wherein 07 of them were found positive. It needs mention here that on Monday, 369 persons were detected as Covid-19 positive in Cachar.
Suman Choudhury further said that many people in the district are violating norms of home isolation and are roaming around, which has indeed become a major cause of concern as they are further spreading the disease.
Tuesday witnessed demise of two more Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their details report were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board as per the protocol. The deceased were identified as:
- Jiten Chandra Das (67) from Chandrapur at Lala in Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 9 May. He, however, breathed his last at 4.50 AM on 11 May, 2021.
- Dilip Kumar Singh (65) also from Lala in Hailakandi was admitted at SMCH on 5 May. He succumbed to the infection at 10.30 AM on 11 May.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta further informed that a total of 217 active coronavirus patients are admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), out of which, 180 of them are in Covid ward and 37 at ICU. As of now, 117 patients out of 217 active cases are put under oxygen support. Further, 13 of them are in ventilation. On Tuesday, 12 new patients were admitted whereas, 29 of them were discharged.
