Suspense on! Assam seems to get its new CM on Sunday during the legislative party meet

May 8: The Parliamentary Board of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed central observers for the election of the leader of the party MLAs in Assam and Tamil Nadu assembly. Central observers for the election of the leader of the party MLAs in Assam, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Government of India and Arun Singh, National General Secretary BJP have been appointed. This was stated in a press release issued by National Secretary General Headquarters In-charge of BJP on Saturday.

As per reports, in presence of the central observers, the newly elected MLAs will decide on the leader of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Sunday afternoon. Further, on Saturday, Sarbanada Sonowal and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived at New Delhi and begun a series of meeting at Party President J P Nadda’s house where Home Minister Amit Shah, National organizing Secretary B L Santosh, Assam In Charge Vaijyanata Panda, Arun Singh and Narendra Sigh Tomar joined them.

The central leadership of BJP is also not in a mood to antagonize either the incumbent Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who has a good rapport with them by virtue of serving as a Union Minister in the Modi cabinet and possessing a clean image or Himanta Biswa Sarma, the blue eyed boy of BJP, who is also the trouble-shooter of the party not only in Assam but in the entire North East India. The choice seems to be very tough even for the top leadership of the party, as they at no cost would like to invite factionalism in Assam BJP.

The great suspense continued the whole Saturday and only on Sunday afternoon or evening, a clear picture is expected to emerge. Till then, anxiety and apprehension would continue to loom large in the political horizon of Assam.
