Barak Valley registers 372 Covid +ve cases on Thursday; 1 death registered
Active cases 1348 in Barak Valley
May 6: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Thursday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 372 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 314 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 230 positive cases (It was 186 on Wednesday)
- Karimganj: 74 positive cases (It was 77 on Wednesday)
- Hailakandi: 68 positive cases (It was 51 on Wednesday)
A total of 230 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. During the day, 1,605 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 96 persons were found positive, whereas 134 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Thursday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases in 2021 has gone upto 2,108 . Again, 1,309 patients in this year were cured and discharged.
In a tragic turn of events, Assistant Professor of Bengali of Women’s College, Silchar, Dr Jayati Chakraborty (48) breathed her last at 6.15 PM on 6 May, 2021 at SMCH. She was detected Covid positive on 26 April and since then she was at SMCH. As per protocol, the death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.
Hailakandi registered highest ever spike in a single day with detection of 68 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,722. Of the 68 active cases detected on Thursday, 66 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 02 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 248 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 833 RAT tests and 20 RT-PCR tests were done. 16 persons were discharged on Thursday.
Karimganj district reported 74 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the tally of active cases to 303. Health authorities here disclosed that 638 swab samples have been collected and a total of 34 patients discharged after being cured on Thursday.
On Thursday, out of 61,377 tests, 4,936 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,77,687. The positivity rate in the state is 8.04 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,353 positive cases during the day. Further, on Thursday, 46 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,531. On Wednesday, 2,976 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,42,980 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.
Further, during the day, 46 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 46 deceased, 13 are from Kamrup Metro; 4 each from Dibrugarh & Kamrup Rural; 3 each from Golaghat, Nalbari & Tinsukia, 2 each from Barpeta & Sonitpur; 1 each from Cachar, Karimganj, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Nagaon & Sivasagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,531.
