Barak Valley registers 154 Covid-19 +ve cases on Wednesday
Active cases 696 in Barak Valley
April 28: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 145 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 155 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 119 positive cases (It was also 115 on Tuesday)
- Karimganj: 26 positive cases (It was 24 on Tuesday)
- Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 16 on Tuesday)
The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 115 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Wednesday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 510. As per the updated data, a total of 1,178 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 61 persons were found positive, whereas 58 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Wednesday night. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, the total positive cases detected here was 115. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 12,411. Again, 11,813 patients till now were cured and discharged.
Hailakandi reported 09 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, out of which, 08 were found positive in RAT and 01 in RT-PCR. This was stated in a tweet by NHM Assam. The district has altogether 70 active COVID-19 cases while 3,361 patients have recuperated from the affliction. 15 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital and 55 kept under home isolation.
On Wednesday, out of 1,244 Covid tests done, 26 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. Further, during the day, 14 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 116 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 24 persons were found positive in the district.
On Wednesday, out of 55,480 tests, 3,045 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,46,847. The positivity rate in the state is 5.49 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,206 positive cases during the day. Further, 22 more persons lost their lives in the state on Wednesday due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,255. This is the highest single-day deaths recorded in Assam in 2021. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 3,132 persons tested positive in Assam and 18 deaths were registered.
Further, during the day, 22 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day figures in the state this year. Out of the 22 deceased, 06 are from Kamrup Metro, 03 each from Kamrup Rural & Barpeta; 2 each from Jorhat & Sonitpur, 1 each from Cachar, Charaideo, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Lakhimpur and Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,255.
However, what remained confusing is that NHM Assam in its twitter handle on 28 April stated that there was 1 Covid-19 death in Cachar, but no such mention was made by the Cachar District Health Department.
