Sec.144 clamped in Hailakandi DC’s office premises

March 10: In view of filing of nomination papers by various political parties for the forthcoming Assam Assembly election and possibility of a large gathering of vehicles and people accompanying the political candidates which ‘may cause serious concern about general law and order in the entire DC office premises’, Section 144 has been clamped with immediate effect.

Promulgating Section 144 CrPC as per the existing guidelines of the Election Commission of India here on Wednesday, District Magistrate, Hailakandi Megh Nidhi Dahal, said this has been done to maintain public peace and tranquility in the district. The order prohibits the entry of all vehicles except vehicles of officials on duty and vehicles of candidates filing nominations (maximum of two vehicles per candidate) beginning Wednesday and ending on Friday, the last date for filing nomination.

The order further puts in place a No-Entry Zone within 100 metres radius of the office campus of the Deputy Commissioner. “Any violation of the order will result in prosecution as per provisions of Indian Penal Code,” the order warned.
