Congress protests in Silchar against Hathras incident & manhandling of Rahul Gandhi

Oct. 2: In the backdrop of the tragic incident which took place at Hathras and the manhandling of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has resulted in a heated political scenario in the country. Congress has made a huge political issue of this incident. At around 12 noon on Friday, Congress workers blocked the road near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

At the same time, slogans were raised against Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath. Police jumped into action, when the Congress workers attempted to burn effigies of PM Modi and CM Adityanath. They were not allowed to burn the effigies. 30 persons were arrested in this connection after which the roads were cleared. However, those 30 Congress workers were released in the evening.

Those arrested included District President of Mahila Congress Sanchita Acharjee, Youth Congress President Javed Akthar Laskar, Abhijit Paul, Kushal Dutta, Deboja Sumanta and others. Though District Congress President Pradip Kumar Dey and Papon Deb too participated in the protest demonstration, but they evaded arrest by leaving the spot just before police started to arrest the agitators.
