A banker less ordinary; Nandini Bhattacharjee in a candid talk with Dr. Himabrata Das
Sept. 20: As we enter the auspicious Devipokkho, Way2Barak decided to celebrate the spirit of womanhood by interacting with a truly multidimensional young ‘NAARI’ in Ms Nandini Bhattacharjee, who on being a banker amidst the pandemic speaks about her with Dr. Himabrata Das.
Banking touches every part of our economy & this will be critical as Covid-19 is likely to have a prolonged impact. Banks are making investments in technology & digital transformations. In this Covid-19 scenario Digital maturity will determine the survival of banking players to a great extent and so do the employees belonging to those institutions. Already banks in India have focused on maintaining critical staff at branches and implementing video collaboration tools etc.
At the individual level we need to fast adopt the technological changes and educate the people about the benefits so that they become comfortable with it and we can run our business keeping our mental health in a good shape!
On what theatre means to her:
Theatre is called as reflection of any society. Be it any historical movement, any political situation, cultural representation or any social reforms, theatre can be the best mode to pass the message to masses. It has the huge power to make people understand about any positive changes to bring because here you see the characters live in front of you showing the effects through this art form. A few memorable characters to count are Amal from Dakghor by Rabindranath Tagore, Tuli from Rong-tuli, Pori from Natun Yehudi & Marjina from Aalibaba.
On her love for dance:
Yes more because I have been dancing since my very childhood, dance has a lot of contribution in my life. It helps to express the emotions which made me more of an expressive person. Dance developed my creative skills & helps me to be aware of myself. Taught me the pace to live and dance is a meditation, exercise & stress reliever for me.
On her journey as a Leo:
I have seen my family contributing to society since my childhood so when it came to my turn, I decided to make it through an organisation and what can be better then a international platform like Leo movement where I get the fellowship to learn & also can contribute to my best capacity.
Positive message for young women:
Success has different layers & stages. It is a lot about which layer of it you are cherishing the most. I felt like the most successful person on earth when I could fund and plan my long solo trip all by myself! Funny, but true. Rather than getting into banking sector, promotion or rewards & recognitions, I tasted success when a top senior management appreciated my knowledge. I couldn’t taste the success much when I won the Govt. of India scholarship for classical dance, rather I cherished success when I got the opportunity to take part with my Guruji or when I could train a group of slum kids at Kolkata under Paschim Banga Nari O Sishu Kalyan Sanstha and so on.
To talk about growing in the academics, management or business, big fat books & tutorial sessions are available so I won’t dare to bang my head there. Knowledge is the strongest weapon a young mind can have to establish herself. One of my senior told me once that note one thing you learnt for every day & that can be of anything in the universe, otherwise your day is a waste. Just while exploring the opportunities be careful not to compromise on dignity and integrity. Mind it, success comes with responsibilities. But yes there are certain challenges a woman need to face.
Doesn’t matter how progressive we as a society now, at workplace when a woman grow she has to listen that she got special attention for being girl, or on appearances. The more you grow people will be always ready to demean your talent or performances. Parallel to that there will also be people to acknowledge the effort and guide you. So one need to instruct her mind which one to let in and carry.
I don’t know how does grandest stage look like as I just started to evolve but my idea about the same is, you don’t need to prepare for the grandest stage. Just live every move of your life and keep going ahead without any fear. It is ok if you don’t be successful as per social concept. It is important that how much you are contributing to other’s life or livelihood.
The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.
