1st electric crematorium in Barak Valley becomes operational in Karimganj

August 28: The 1st electric crematorium in Barak Valley has become operational in Karimganj District. The furnace was formally inaugurated on Friday in presence of MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Deputy Commissioner of the district. This electric furnace was made inside the Brajendra Road Crematorium in Karimganj.

Speaking during the occasion, the MLA Dey Purkayastha, “This would help in cremating those who have died due to coronavirus. Apart from this, the electric furnace will be of immense help and time saving in normal time also.” Technical team from Gujarat has given the final touch to this electric furnace.

Expressing his views, DC Karimganj said, “As a latest development, Electric Crematorium (first in Barak Valley) has become operational in Karimganj District. This will benefit in hygienic disposal of dead bodies. A trial run was carried out today using a pile of wood. The furnace is capable of completely burning a body within a span of 60 minutes.”
