Barak Valley registers 231 positive cases on Tuesday

August 11: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. However, on Tuesday, the number of fresh cases came somewhat down in comparison to the last few days. A total of 231 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 285 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

• Cachar: 150 positive cases   (It was 194 on Monday)
• Karimganj: 51 positive cases  (It was 45 on Monday)
• Hailakandi: 30 positive cases (It was 46 on Monday)

On Tuesday, 150 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Cachar district. During the day, 143 persons were detected positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and only 07 in RT-PCR Test. A total of 2165 Rapid tests were conducted during the day, out of which 143 were found positive.

On Tuesday, three more deaths due to COVID-19 were reported from Cachar district. With this, the death tally of Cachar due to coronavirus has gone upto 09. Though all three of them died on 10 August, but the State Death Audit Board certified the cause of their death as due to COVID-19 on 11 August. This was confirmed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert. On Monday, the number of positive cases were more as 194 tested positive on that day.

From now onwards, Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) for detection of COVID-19 patients has been started in three private hospitals of Silchar, where rapid test can be done are Green Heals Hospital, Meherpur, S.S. Poly Clinic & Nursing Home, SMC Road, Silchar and Jeevan Jyoti Health Care & Research Centre, Meherpur, Silchar.

Meanwhile,the Cachar district administration held a meeting with leading citizens at Banga Bhawan here on Tuesday. All the participants opined that lockdown is no solution and creating awareness holds the key to containing the disease. They pointed out that lockdown would not help in containing the disease and would increase the hardships of the common man.

On Tuesday, 30 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 1387. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 30 positive cases detected on Tuesday, 29 cases have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Altogether 527 cases have been found positive under RAT with more than 50 per cent without travel history. 974 persons on being cured have been released from hospitals.The number of active cases in the district is currently 375.

Karimganj district registered 51 new COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday. Further, 9 patients were discharged from various parts of the district. 1109 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done during the day. The health department has appealed to people to come voluntarily for testing.

Apart from the valley, a total of 2,699 persons tested positive in Assam on Tuesday, thereby taking the state tally to 64,406. As of now, there are 19,175 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1487 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 45,073 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 4 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 155.
