380 passengers expected to arrive daily by air at Silchar, DC takes stock of preparedness

May 23: Ultimately air connectivity of Silchar with the rest of the country was given a nod by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. That means large number of people stranded in other states due to lockdown will now be boarding the flight for Silchar and that has made the state authorities to be more prepared to screen the passengers. It is in this connection that Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar visited Silchar airport at Kumbhirgram in order to take stock of the preparedness with resumption of flight services from Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli met with the airport officials and sought the support of airport authorities in the fight against coronavirus. It was decided in the meeting that a number of centres (for collection of swab samples of passengers) would be set up in the airport premises after which the passengers would be escorted to quarantine centres. Medical teams will be deployed in the airport to screen all the passengers. A total of 380 passengers are expected to arrive here via flights per day.

Jalli, was accompanied by District development commissioner Jessica Lalsim, Superintendent of Police, Manabendra Devray, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan and Additional Superintendent of Police Gourab Agarwal.The meeting was also attended by the Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. Sudip Jyoti Das and Rahul Ghose, District Project Manager, National Health Mission, Cachar.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner also visited the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, and held a meeting with Prof. Sibaji Bandopadhyay, Director, NIT. Jalli inspected some buildings at NIT which would be transformed into quarantine centres.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy Commissioner visited Pechadahar (Ramnagar), Lamargram, Chirukandi which were declared as precautionary containment zones after a number of persons of those places were found corona positive earlier this month. She has withdrawn ceremonially the tag of precautionary containment zones of these places.
