Assam Cares: 725 persons given ₹25,000 each who are outside Assam for treatment
April 18: The nationwide lockdown since 24 March, 2020 has invited various sorts of problem for the people. Many who went outside Assam for treatment of diseases like cancer, kidney transplant, heart & liver issues could not come back to the state due to lockdown and are now stranded in Mumbai, Bangalore or other states are finding it hard to meet up expenditure for their treatment. For those, the Assam government introduced a helpline number and asked them to call the number and provide their details.
As of now, the credentials of 725 such persons were verified by the Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts and they were then transferred an amount of Rs. 25,000 each in their bank account. Another 208 have also applied, but the process of verification of their applications is still on. If found correct, then these 208 persons will also be sent Rs. 25,000 each within a day or two. This means that under the Assam cares scheme, a total of 933 beneficiaries will get Rs. 25,000 each. This was informed by state Health Minister, Dr. himanta Biswa Sarma in a press briefing held in Guwahati on Saturday evening.
Addressing the media, Dr. Sarma said that in Mumbai Assam Bhavan, a total of 95 cancer patients from Assam are stranded and they all have been sent Rs. 25,000 each. The minister further informed that 34 persons from Assam who are now stranded outside India had been given a financial help of $1000 each. The 2nd installment to these 34 persons will also be sent by 25 April.
