India’s confirmed coronavirus cases cross 1000-mark, death toll at 24

March 29: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India rose to 1024 on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Out of 1024 confirmed cases, 47 are foreign nationals. The tally of active cases went up to 914, whereas 24 of them died as of Saturday late night.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases so far at 186 (including three foreign nationals), followed by Kerala at 182, including eight foreign nationals, according to the ministry data. In Telangana, the number of cases has gone up to 67, including 10 foreigners while Karnataka has reported 81 cases till now. The number of cases in Rajasthan has climbed to 54, including two foreigners.

Uttar Pradesh has reported 65 cases, including a foreigner while in Gujarat, it has gone up to 55, including one foreign national. In Tamil Nadu 42 people, including six foreigners, have tested positive, while the number of positive cases in Delhi has gone up to 49, including a foreigner. Punjab has reported 38 cases, while 35 COVID-19 cases have so far been detected in Haryana, including 14 foreigners. Madhya Pradesh has recorded 34 cases, Jammu and Kashmir 33, West Bengal 18, Andhra Pradesh 19 and Ladakh has reported 13 COVID-19 cases.

Bihar has 11 cases, Chandigarh 08 and Chhattisgarh has reported 07 cases so far. Uttarakhand has 06 cases, including a foreigner. Himachal Pradesh and Odisha have reported 03 cases each. 09 cases have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Goa has reported 03 coronavirus cases. Puducherry, Mizoram and Manipur have reported one case each.

A report by Live Mint stated that India’s trajectory is flatter than that of the US, which is the new global epicentre of Covid-19, with confirmed cases surpassing China. Yet, given the volatility in India’s daily data over the past few days, it is too early to say whether the current trajectory will sustain, rise, or flatten in the coming days.
