November 15: It’s indeed a great contribution towards humanity as 56 Junior Doctors of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) came forward and donated blood. On Thursday, a Mega Blood Donation Camp was organised by the Junior Doctors’ Association of SMCH. The said camp was held at the Blood Bank of SMCH.

Though the tag line of the camp was ‘You don’t need to be a doctor to save lives.,’ yet, in fact the junior doctors proved by their deed that doctors too can save lives by donating blood for the patients. Judging from this point of view, the camp was indeed a great success. Smile was there besides the association’s endeavour of organising this camp.

This Blood Camp is unique in the form that the donated blood units will be marked with an unique unit number and the donor shall be notified through text message, once his blood gets issued to any patient.

Floating the idea, Dr. Dawipayan Deb said, “SMCH Blood Bank is facing acute shortage of blood units and hence during any major incident (as seen in recent times) it becomes difficult to provide blood for the needy.  What if another major incident happens and we are not prepared for it?” It was from this sense of social responsibility that the junior doctors came forward to be catalysts in the process of saving lives by donating blood.
