Diganta Biswa Sarma delivers lecture on Swami Vivekananda organised jointly by ACTA Cachar Zone & Women’s College
September 12: A special lecture programme to commemorate the completion of the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic Chicago Speech was organised on 12 September, 2019 by Cachar Zone of Assam College Teachers Association (ACTA) in collaboration with IQAC of Women’s College, Silchar. The lecture was delivered by eminent scholar Diganta Biswa Sarma at Nivedita Sabhagriha at Women’s College, Silchar.
The organisers felicitated the key speaker Diganta Biswa Sarma along with Dr. Samar Deb, President of ACTA Cachar Zone, Dr. Santanu Das-Secretary ACTA Cachar Zone and Dr. Manoj Kumar Paul-Principal Women’s College, Silchar. The special lecture programme was attended by students of the host college along with teachers from different colleges.
Speaking during the occasion, Diganta Biswa Sarma referred him to be just a messenger and not any erudite scholar. He said that Swami Vivekananda cannot be understood, he needs to be realised and internalised. Mr. Biswa Sarma criticised Ramachandra Guha for his comment “Vivekananda may not be a maker of modern India.” He retaliated quoting several foreign writers wherein they have applauded stating, “Swami Vivekananda is one of the hundred nation builders of America.”
Diganta Biswa Sarma said, “Swami Vivekanada is the embodiment of the newly awakened heroic and eternal soul of India but Ramachandra Guha opines that he is not even a maker of modern India. Many criticise reawakening of modern India as they feel that it is synonymous with Hindu awakening.” Mr. Biswa Sarma even made a reference to Sitaram Goel wherein he regarded Dayanand Saraswati, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Swami Vivekananda and Aurobindo as the 4 forces which contributed towards India’s reawakening.
Speaking to way2barak, Chandan Paul Choudhury, Central Executive Member from ACTA Cachar Zone said, “We are privileged to have amidst us eminent speaker Diganta Biswa Sarma who gave a brilliant speech on Swami Vivekananda. Mr. Biswa Sarma will also address a similar gathering at Assam University today.”
