I am not going to join either BJP or AGP, clarifies Siddique Ahmed
July 3: A few days ago, Hailakandi district President of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Aftab Uddin Laskar claimed that former Congress leaders Gautam Roy and Siddique Ahmed are expected to join AGP. Laskar informed that both Roy and Ahmed expressed their keenness to join the party to AGP president Atul Bora and former CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
However, on Tuesday, in an interview with a local news channel, former Assam Minister Siddique Ahmed clarified that he is not going to join either AGP or BJP. He said, “Some people with vested interest have spread this lies about me. I always do secular politics and is always with the Congress. I have no plans at all to change my party and join AGP which is an ally of BJP.”
It may be mentioned that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) suspended Gautam Roy for ‘anti-party activities’ on 16 June 2019 after he was seen celebrating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the recently declared Lok Sabha elections. Since then speculations were rife of Roy joining the BJP. However, the statement of Aftab Uddin Laskar added fuel to the fire when he said that both Roy and Ahmed are going to join AGP.
