Assam University Observes 578th Birth Anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev with Deep Reverence

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ২১ সেপ্টেম্বর : গভীর শ্রদ্ধা ও ভাবগম্ভীর পরিবেশে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়েও সোমবার পালিত হল পঞ্চদশ-ষোড়শ শতকের কিংবদন্তি সন্ত-পণ্ডিত, সমাজ সংস্কারক তথা অসমের সাংস্কৃতিক জাগরণের অন্যতম পথিকৃৎ মহাপুরুষ শ্রীমন্ত শঙ্করদেবের ৫৭৮তম জন্মবার্ষিকী। এদিন সকালে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রাজা রামমোহন রায় প্রশাসনিক ভবনে শ্রীমন্ত শঙ্করদেবের প্রতিকৃতিতে পুষ্পাঞ্জলি অর্পণ করে শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নিবন্ধক ড. প্রদোষ কিরণ নাথ।

এদিনের অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন কলেজ ডেভেলপমেন্ট কাউন্সিলের ডিরেক্টর জয়ন্ত ভট্টাচার্য, আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় অশিক্ষক কর্মচারী সংস্থার সভাপতি দেবাশিস চক্রবর্তী, সাধারণ সম্পাদক উৎপল দাস, সেকশন অফিসার সুব্রত সিনহা, বাবু সিং তেরং, আব্দুল জলিল, ফারুক আহমেদ সহ অন্য আধিকারিক ও শিক্ষাকর্মীরা।

নিবন্ধক ড. প্রদোষ কিরণ নাথ মহাপুরুষ শ্রীমন্ত শঙ্করদেবের শিক্ষা ও দর্শনের চিরন্তন তাৎপর্যের ওপর আলোকপাত করে বলেন, শঙ্করদেব প্রবর্তিত ‘একশরণ নাম ধর্ম’ আন্দোলনের সামাজিক ও মানবিক গুরুত্ব আজও সমান প্রাসঙ্গিক। কীভাবে এই আন্দোলন জাতিভেদ ও সামাজিক বিভাজনের বিরুদ্ধে অবস্থান নিয়ে সমতা, বিশ্বজনীন ভ্রাতৃত্ব এবং মানবতাবাদের আদর্শকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার প্রয়াস চালিয়েছিল, তাও উল্লেখ ধরেন তিনি।

মধ্যযুগীয় অসমিয়া সমাজে শঙ্করদেবের ধর্মীয় ও সাংস্কৃতিক আন্দোলন যে গভীর পরিবর্তনের সূচনা করেছিল, তা উল্লেখ করে ড. নাথ তাঁর চিন্তাধারার আধুনিক সমাজে প্রাসঙ্গিকতার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন। তাঁর মতে, শঙ্করদেবের আদর্শ কেবল ধর্মীয় বিশ্বাসের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়; বরং মানবিক মূল্যবোধ, সামাজিক সম্প্রীতি এবং সকলের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধার এক বৃহত্তর বার্তা বহন করে।

Way2barak, September 21 : The 578th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, the legendary 15th–16th century saint-scholar, social reformer and one of the pioneers of Assam’s cultural awakening, was observed at Assam University on Monday with deep reverence and solemnity.

In the morning, Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, Registrar of Assam University, paid floral tribute to the portrait of Srimanta Sankardev at the Raja Rammohun Roy Administrative Building of the university.

Among others present at the programme were Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Director of the College Development Council; Debashis Chakraborty, President of the Assam University Non-Teaching Employees’ Association; Utpal Das, General Secretary; Section Officer Subrata Sinha; Babu Singh Teron; Abdul Jalil; Faruk Ahmed; and other officers and employees.

Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath highlighted the enduring significance of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev’s teachings and philosophy. He emphasised that the social and humanitarian importance of the ‘Ekasarana Naam Dharma’ movement initiated by Sankardev remains equally relevant today. He also referred to the movement’s efforts to challenge caste-based discrimination and social divisions while promoting the ideals of equality, universal brotherhood and humanism.

Highlighting the profound transformation brought about by Sankardev’s religious and cultural movement in medieval Assamese society, Dr. Nath underscored the relevance of his philosophy in contemporary society. According to him, Sankardev’s ideals are not confined to religious beliefs alone; rather, they convey a broader message of human values, social harmony and respect for all.
