DC Yadav spearheads on-ground inspection of flood protection & infrastructure works

way2barak, June 1: In a remarkable demonstration of administrative resolve and grassroots engagement, District Commissioner of Cachar, Shri Mridul Yadav, IAS, spearheaded a comprehensive on-ground inspection across several flood-prone regions of the district. With the monsoon season fast approaching, the initiative underscores the district administration’s unwavering commitment to public safety, infrastructure resilience, and proactive disaster management.

Accompanied by K. Zaman, Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department, along with a team of senior departmental officials, the District Commissioner personally visited critical embankments and dykes along the Barak River. The inspection spanned key locations such as Betukandi, Berenga Nathpara, and nearby vulnerable zones—areas historically susceptible to riverbank erosion and waterlogging.

DC Yadav meticulously reviewed the condition of the riverbanks and assessed the efficacy of erosion control measures already in place. He called for detailed technical reports and instructed the concerned departments to ensure that all mitigation efforts are scientifically sound, time-bound, and robust enough to withstand the pressures of heavy rainfall and rising water levels. His focus remained firm on implementing lasting solutions rather than temporary fixes, signalling a shift towards long-term resilience planning in the district’s flood management strategy.

Equally significant was the Commissioner’s inspection of infrastructure development works under the aegis of the Public Works (Roads) Department. He visited active construction and maintenance sites, examining the quality and pace of road repairs that are vital for both connectivity and emergency response during adverse weather conditions. By scrutinising these projects firsthand, Shri Yadav ensured that contractors and officials remain accountable to public expectations and governmental standards.

In a stern yet encouraging directive, the District Commissioner urged all relevant departments to maintain a state of heightened alertness throughout the monsoon. He emphasised the need for inter-departmental coordination, real-time monitoring, and swift preventive action to avert any potential crisis. His leadership has infused a renewed sense of urgency and duty among field-level officers, aligning the entire administrative machinery towards a common goal safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of the people of Cachar.

This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
