Cachar district will go for polls on 18 April, 2019. The result of the election will be declared on 23 May, 2019.

The first round of training for the Polling personnel began on 18-03-2019 and will continue also on 19-03-2019, 20-03-2019 & 23-03-2019. The training was imparted in two sessions. The morning session training on 18 March was scheduled at 10 AM till1 PM, whereas the afternoon session was supposed to start at 2 PM and end at 5 PM.

Two training venues were selected for this purpose : Narshing H.S. School, Silchar and Cachar High School, Silchar. At Narshing HS School, training was imparted in 11 rooms whereas, at Cachar High School, 10 rooms were earmarked. The EVM/VVPAT Training & Awareness Cell of Cachar district spearheaded the training sessions wherein 52 Master Trainers (Assembly Level Trainers-ALTs) imparted training in EVM/VVPAT and poll procedure. The training was given by means of power point presentations. In every room of both the schools, there were two sets of Master Trainers: one gave training on EVM/VVPAT and the other imparted training on the poll procedure.

Around 400 Presiding Officers were imparted training on Monday. On Tuesday too, training will be imparted in both the two venues. Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajib Roy, Election Officer Sudeep Nath, State Level Master Trainer Sudipta Dutta Choudhury (Bapi) went around both the training centres and took stock of the situation.

The EVM training has acquired a great significance this year due to the introduction of a new machine named, Voter Verified Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT). The VVPAT is a way of giving feedback to voters using ballot-free voting system. Its purpose is to confirm the authenticity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). This arrangement reveals to the voter whether he has voted or not. VVPAT is a kind of printer connected to EVM.
