World Sanskrit Day & Rakshabandhab celebrated at Cachar College

Aug. 12: As the ‘World Sanskrit Day’ is celebrated all throughout the country to promote the resurgence and preservation of the Sanskrit language, the Department of Sanskrit of Cachar College, Silchar had organised a programme ‘Sanskrit Day & Rakshabandhan’ on Friday in the college premises.

The celebration started with benedictory verses uttered by Udit Singha, a student of HS 2nd year of the college. The Head of the Department of Sanskrit of Cachar College, Dr Ashima Bhattacharjee in her speech narrated the reason behind the celebration of Sanskrit Day & Rakshabandhan.

The Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr Shamita Nag Dhar, a Sanskrit scholar of Barak Valley and retired Head of the Department of Sanskrit of Cachar College lighted the lamp before Goddess Saraswati and also later spoke on the significance of this special day. She also highlighted the importance and relevance of Sanskrit language and literature in the present age.

This was followed by relevant speeches delivered by Dr Sumita Ghosh, Academic Coordinator of Arts Faculty of the college, Teachers’ Representatives Dr Ratan Kumar Das and Dr Swadesh Ranjan Das. Other faculty members who also spoke on the occasion were Dr Nitu Debnath, Manish Pandey, Dr Paramita Das and Dr Sucharita Choudhury.

On behalf of the students, Ujjal Nath and Hridesh Rancjan Chakraborty too spoke on the beauty and relevance of Sanskrit language. Rituparna Chakraborty of 6th semester sang the Shivatandava Stutra.

In the 2nd part of the programme, the students of the Department of Sanskrit celebrated Rakshabandhan and tied Rakhi in the hands of all present during the programme. A book entitled ‘Sanskrit Vadatu’, published by the Sanskrit Bharati, Silchar was also distributed. The programme was compered by Nayana Goswami, Assistant Professor of the Department of Sanskrit, Cachar College, SIlchar.
