Scorching heat: Silchar records a max temperature of 39.6°C on Thursday
July 14: As Silchar in particular and Barak Valley in general is limping back to normalcy after the recent devastating flood, the weather has been playing spoilsport. It’s a known fact that torrential rainfall since couple of days resulted in unprecedented flood in Barak Valley. And now as the flood situation has just receded, extreme heat wave has become another problem for the people of Silchar and Barak Valley.
On Thursday, Silchar recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6°C on Thursday and the minimum temperature during the day was 28.1°C. Though the temperature was 39.6°C but the feel during the day was around 47 to 48°C. At 2 PM on Thursday, the feel was recorded at 50°C. The relative humidity measured at 8.30 AM was 73% and at 5.30 PM was 51%.
Moreover, regular load shedding on Thursday further made lives miserable. The streets and markets gave a deserted look. Vehicles were also very few on the streets. Even consumers were very thin in the vegetable markets. People preferred to remain indoors. As per weather forecast, the heat wave is likely to continue amidst possibility of thunderstorm, lightning and few spells of rainfall at isolated places in the valley.
