Adding to the woes of common people, APDCL proposes for hike in electricity price

Dec. 29: At a time, when price rise in almost every sector has made the survival of common people tough, a proposal by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to hike electricity prices in the state has added more woes. In a recent development, APDCL  has submitted a proposal to the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) to hike the monthly per-unit cost of electricity by Rs. 2. The proposal is now under consideration of AERC.

At present, the existing per-unit cost of electricity in Assam for connections above 5kW load, is Rs. 7.25 per unit. Further, for connections below that, the cost is divided as for the first 120 units consumed, it is charged at ₹5.4 per unit. For 120-240 units, ₹6.65 and above 240 units, it is ₹7.65 per unit, as charged by APDCL now.
