Owner of SBI Customer Service Point arrested in Hailakandi for embezzling ₹70,000 from a customer

Dec. 17: In a major issue of fraud, a man who is the owner of a Customer Service Point (CSP) of State Bank of India (SBI) was arrested on Thursday night by Algapur Police in Hailakandi district for alleged embezzling of Rs. 70,000. The man was apprehended by the police on the basis of a complaint lodged by a customer. The customer alleged that he had deposited Rs.90,000 at the SBI CSP. However, after updating his passbook, a few days later, the customer identified as Kamrul islam Laskar found that out of Rs.90,000, only Rs. 20,000 got credited in his account. Unable to get any satisfactory response from the CSP owner, the customer filed a police complaint.

Acting on the complaint, a team of Algapur Police raided the Customer Service Point and recovered huge number of ATM cards and bank passbooks from there. Police arrested Altaf Hussain Barbhuiya, the owner of the CSP. As per sources, police is interrogating the prime accused and are also in touch with the local branch of SBI to unearth the details.

CSP stands for “Customer Service Point” which is also called a Bank Grahak Seva Kendra. Bank Grahak Seva Kendra is an concept designed under PPP (Public Private Partnership) Where a Bank Mitra or CSP works as a representative or agent of Bank and appointed to provide Banking service to citizens. The State Bank of India approves Customer Service Point only through a valid CSP registration from an authorized CSP provider. Customer Service Point is a banking outlet run by non-banking individuals. Therefore, SBI CSP is like a mini bank for carrying out limited transactions and sourcing business.
