HS to be delinked from colleges & PG to be linked by 2023 in Assam

Dec. 13: By 2023, Higher Secondary courses will be delinked from all the Degree Colleges of Assam and post graduate courses (PG) will then be started along with UG classes in the provincialised colleges. This was announced by State Education Minister, Dr Ranoj Pegu while speaking during the 66th Annual General Conference of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) held at Nagaon Girls’ College, Nagaon on Monday.

He further informed that 1000 schools will soon be upgraded to Higher Secondary level. Rs 50 lakh will be provided to each of these schools for development of infrastructure. Dr Pegu said, “The colleges here has to shoulder some responsibilities. On delinking HS, the concerned colleges should inform the higher education department the nearby HS schools where these students can be accommodated. Further, the colleges can also write to the government to induct new teachers, if required, in those nearby HS schools where they would refer the HS students.

The Education Minister also stated that the colleges should now have to increase their enrollment. Atleast 3000 students are to be admitted by each of the colleges.
