Guardian Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya hands over cheques to COVID widows in Karimganj

Nov.22: Guardian Minister for Karimganj and Minister for Environment and Forest, Excise and Fisheries, Parimal Suklabaidya ceremonially handed over cheques worth Rs.2.5 lakh each to the widows of six COVID victims of Karimganj and one beneficiary of Hailakandi district in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Karimganj, Mridul Jadav at a function organised by the District Administration, Karimganj at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Suklabaidya said, “Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Widows’ Support Scheme is a great initiative taken by the state government which aimed at providing social and financial security to the women who lost their husbands in the coronavirus pandemic. This unique project has been launched only in Assam and this initiative was taken by our Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to extend financial support to the widows who lost their husbands due to coronavirus disease.”

“Our Government led by Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma has also fixed an amount of Rs.7.5 lakh for the children who have lost their parents due to COVID and from this fixed amount they can earn Rs.3,000 per month. This money will be used for the education of the orphans. The money will be returned to the orphans after 24 years,” he stated.

The Minister also called upon the recipients to volunteer and inform others in the society about the grave dangers of the COVID pandemic and to create awareness so that the third wave could be averted. Besides, the Minister said that as a result of continuous efforts of the present Central and State Governments, it has been possible to provide COVID vaccine to about 111 crore people in the country. The Guardian Minister urged everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible if they have not yet received it. He said that it would be possible to prevent COVID by taking the vaccine.

It may be mentioned that Champabati Sinha, Begum Rumana Parveen, Salma Ahmed, Afia Begum, Shuklarani Das and Sabita Namashudra from Karimganj district were among the six beneficiaries who were officially handed over the cheques on Sunday. The lone beneficiary from Hailakandi district, Supta Pal received the cheque from the Minister.

It is pertinent to mention that under the Chief Minister’s COVID -19 Widows’ Support Scheme, a one time assistance of Rs.2.5 lakh each is given to women who lost their husbands due to COVID pandemic. Patharkandi MLA, Krishnendu Pal, Development Authority Chairman, Debabrata Saha, District SC Board Chairman Krishna Das, District BJP President, Subrata Bhattacharya, Karimganj DDC, Vikram Dev Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Padmanabh Baruah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rintu Boro, District Program Manager, NHM, Hanif Mohammad Koushar Alam, officials and journalists from different media houses also attended the programme.
