Ramakrishna Mission celebrates Christmas

২৬ ডিসেম্বর : খ্রিস্টমাস পালিত হলো রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনে। খ্রিস্টধর্মের প্রবর্তক যিশুর জন্মদিন শুধু কলকাতা বা শিলঙেই নয়, পালিত হয়েছে শিলচর রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনেও। ভগবান যিশুর প্রতিকৃতির সামনে মোমবাতি জ্বালিয়ে দেওয়া হলো, সাজিয়ে রাখা হলো কেক। তারপর ভক্তরা মিলে বড়দিনের ধর্মীয় প্রার্থনায় অংশ নিলেন। শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংসদেব যে বলেছিলেন, ভগবান একজনই, আর ‘যত মত তত পথ’ রয়েছে, তা-ই যেন এ দিন মূর্ত হয়ে উঠল বড়দিনের ঠিক প্রাক সন্ধ্যায়।

শিলচর রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনে ২৪ ডিসেম্বর সন্ধ্যায় শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের প্রতিকৃতির সামনে শুরুতে যথারীতি সন্ধ্যারতি হয়েছে। এতে অন্যদিনের মতোই মহারাজজি সহ অন্য ভক্তরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। যিশুখ্রিস্টের জন্মদিন পালন উপলক্ষে এ দিন শুরু থেকেই এ দিন প্রথমেই মোমবাতি জ্বালিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানস্থল সাজিয়ে রাখা হয়েছিল। কেক দিয়ে ভোগ লাগানো হয়। মিশন কর্তৃপক্ষ ছাড়াও বিভিন্ন ভক্ত এ দিন কেক এনে সাজিয়ে দেন যিশুর প্রতিকৃতির সামনে। আরতি হয়, এরপর নৈবেদ্য উতসর্গ করা হয়।

কলকাতার রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন ইনস্টিটিউট অব কালচারে বড়দিনের প্রাকসন্ধ্যায় আর্ক বিশপ থমাস ডিসুজাকে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছিল। এতে যোগ দিয়ে তিনি সবার একতা ও অংশগ্রহণের ওপর জোর দেন। তিনি বলেছেন, অল রিলিজিয়নস লিড টু গড, একথাই শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের কথায়ও ধ্বনিত হয়েছে— ‘যত মত তত পথ’। তিনি বলেন, মানবতাই ঈশ্বরের কথা বলে।

ধর্মযাজক সেই গল্পের ওপরও আলোকপাত করেন যে, ১৮৮৬ সালে শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের প্রয়াণের পর কীভাবে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ ও অন্য শিষ্যরা সন্ন্যাস নেওয়ার জন্য মনস্থির করলেন। সেই দিনটাও ছিল এক বড়দিন। তিনি বিশ্বজুড়ে যে হানাহানি ও বিভেদ চলছে, তার শেকড় খুজতে গিয়ে বলেন, ‘আমরা যদি সবাই একই মানবতায় বিশ্বাসী হই, তাহলে আমরা কীভাবে একে অন্যকে ঘৃণা বা হত্যা করতে পারি ?’ তিনি আরও বলেন, সব ধর্মকে আপন করে নেওয়ার যে অদ্ভুত ক্ষমতা স্বামীজির ছিল, তা-ই এখানে আমাদের নিয়ে এসেছে। যিশু যেভাবে বলতেন, স্বামীজিও একইভাবে বলেছেন, সত্য ও শান্তির কথা।

শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ মঠ ও মিশনের সম্পাদক সুবীরানন্দজি মহারাজ বলেন, ঠাকুরের প্রয়াণের চার মাস পর হুগলির শ্রীরামপুরের এক গ্রামে এমনই এক বড়দিনে স্বামীজি ও রামকৃষ্ণের অন্য শিষ্যরা সন্ন্যাস গ্রহণ করে গুরুকে শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি দিয়েছিলেন। পরে অন্তপুর গ্রামে একটি আশ্রম গড়ে তোলা হয়। আর তখন থেকেই আজ পর্যন্ত রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনে বড়দিন উতসব পালনের রেওয়াজ রয়েছে। বিশ্বের ২৭টি দেশের ২৩৭টি রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনে সন্ন্যাসী ও সাধুরা মিলে বড়দিন পালন করেন।

ইনস্টিটিউটের সম্পাদক স্বামী সুপর্ণানন্দজি মহারাজ বলেছেন, যিশুখ্রিষ্ট যেন ছিলেন শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণের বড়ভাই। আর স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের জন্য ছিলেন এক প্রেরণার উৎস। আর সেজন্যই বড়দিন মিশনের জন্য এক পবিত্র দিন। স্বামীজির উদ্ধৃতি দিয়ে স্বামী সুপর্ণানন্দজি আরও বলেন, একজন ভাল খ্রিস্টান একজন ভাল হিন্দু এবং একজন ভাল মুসলিম একজন ভাল খ্রিস্টান। ফলে বিভিন্ন পথে চললেও সবাই ঈশ্বরের সন্তান। কলকাতার বেলুড় মঠেও এ দিন ধর্মীয় ভাবনায় প্রভু যিশুকে স্মরণ করা হয়েছে।

December 25: At a time, when the nation is tormented into narrow religious compartments, Ramakrishna Mission presented a unique example of religious cohesion and brotherhood. The scenes were unique at Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture in Kolkata when the monks of the Ramakrishna order and a Catholic priest came together to celebrate Christmas Eve ahead of Christmas. This day is celebrated each year at various branches of the Ramakrishna Math. In a goodwill gesture, Ramakrishna Mission invited the Archbishop of Kolkata to join the celebrations. The Ramakrishna Mission’s Christmas connection goes back to over a century. Four months after Sri Ramakrishna passed away in 1886, Swami Vivekananda, along with eight of his disciples, gathered at Antpur village in Hooghly district’s Serampore area and took informal monastic vows on Christmas Eve. The disciples pledged sanyas (asceticism) on the same day and later built an ashram in Antpur village as a tribute to their guru. “Since then, the Christmas Eve is observed as an important day by the monks and devotees across 237 Ramakrishna Math and Missions centres in 27 countries,” said Swami Suvirananda, General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.

The people gathered got to witness special scenes in the form of rituals and aarti for Jesus Christ by Ramakrishna monks. Along with the Christmas tree, colorful decoration, lights and a host of food items kept around the pictures of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary provided an enchanting picture. After lighting of candles and making offering to Lord Jesus, carol songs – “Silent Night, Holy Night…”, “Oh come all ye Faithful…”, “Hark the Herald Angel Sing……”, and “Joy to the World…” were sung.

A similar celebration in a solemn and befitting manner of the birth of Jesus Christ was also witnessed at Silchar Ramakrishna Mission on the eve of Christmas. Not just carols and Bible reading, the monks of the Ramakrishna order highlighted the importance all religions during their discourse.  On this day, the Temple was decorated nicely with photos of Baby Jesus Christ and also Lord Jesus.
