Opposition unites for breakfast meet at the call of Rahul Gandi

Aug. 3: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hosted a breakfast meeting of the opposition parties today, to formulate a joint strategy on the alleged Pegasus snooping issue. The meeting hosted at Delhi’s Constitution Club was attended by leaders of TMC, NCP, Shiv Sena, CPI(M), CPI, RJD and SP. However, AAP and BSP skipped the breakfast meeting.

The more this voice (of the people) unites, the more powerful this voice will become, the more difficult it will become for BJP-RSS to suppress it. Within the foundations of unity, we can have a few discussions and arguments but I think it is important for us to come up with the principles of the foundations of our unity” Gandhi said at the meeting.

After a sumptuous breakfast, leaders of eleven Opposition parties spoke briefly about the importance of unity in Parliament and on the ground in the struggle against the anti-people policies & undemocratic actions of the BJP government. After the meeting, Gandhi and other opposition leaders cycled to Parliament to highlight the issue of high fuel prices.

Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, election strategist Prashant Kishor, two Union ministers, Prahlad Patel and Ashwini Vaishnaw, are reportedly among the potential targets of the alleged snooping. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the report about the alleged snooping has been amplified by few with only one aim – to humiliate India at the world stage.

Amid the non-stop disruptions and impasse in Parliament, the breakfast meet of the opposition parties hold special significance.
