Immediately arrest Mizoram MP who openly threatened to kill people, said protesters in Silchar

'Mizoram is not literate but rather the most illiterate state of India,' asserted the youths on Thursday

July 29: The atrocities perpetrated upon Assam Police by Mizo forces along with the Mizo armed miscreants on last Monday which led to death of six policemen and several injured was severely resented by the people of three districts of Barak Valley. Protest movements are being organised at several parts of the valley. As a mark of protest, several youths took to the streets and sat for a brief dharna near the gate of Mizoram Circuit House at Sonai Road, Silchar.

Around 200 youths with banners and placards sat for protest demonstration raising loud slogans “Zoramthanga Go Back”, “Beware Mizo forces”, “Stop aggression,” “We want the killers of Assam Police jawans to be arrested soon” etc. They demanded stern action against those involved in the attack on police personnel and civilians at Lailapur in Assam- Mizoram border on last Monday.

Vehicles vandalised

Speaking during the occasion, one of the youth leader Joydeep Chakraborty said, “If such atrocities by Mizo goons and police are not stopped immediately, we may even consider to pick up arms in our hands. Let the miscreants who fired at our police forces be arrested within 7 days and brought before us. We will give them a befitting treatment.”

Dilu Das, another organiser of the protest movement said, “We demand that there should be one law within the whole territory of India. If Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required to enter Mizoram, then the same should also be implemented to enter Mizoram. We will also hand over a memorandum to this effect today to our district administration.”

“They are lucky that we have not killed them all. If they come again, we shall kill them all,” said Mizoram, Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena. Commenting on this, the protesters said, “Mizoram is known to be one of the most literate states in India, but we would rather term it as the most illiterate state. If a Member of Parliament can utter such language, then we would definitely say that it is he who have been indulged in a larger conspiracy to kill the jawans of Assam Police. We demand that let the Assam Police go to Delhi and immediately arrest him.”

Injured policemen
