Assam Police Day celebrated in muted manner in Hailakandi

Oct.1: Assam Police Day was celebrated in a befitting manner here on Thursday. Commemorating the day at district headquarters along with all police units, Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath unfurled the unit flag at his office premises. Assam Police Day pledge was taken by officers and men in uniform of all ranks throughout the district.

Nath thanked all the officers and policemen for their selfless devotion and dedication towards their duty during the time of pandemic. The SP also urged everyone to be cautious by taking proper precautions for their own safety and their family members due to the COVID-19 disease. As per instructions received from the Assam Police headquarters, senior officers of the district visited families of retired police officers and expressed gratitude for the services they rendered to Assam Police and the State as a whole.

Due to prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the programme was kept a low key affair. Proper social distancing and guidelines as laid down by government were followed during the celebrations. illumination is being done at all police establishments using local materials. It may be mentioned that the Assam Police Day celebrated every year on October 1 marks the occasion of the first Indian officer, KR Choudhury, IPS, becoming the Police Chief of Assam. He took over the responsibility from British Officer JH Reid on October 1, 1951.
