85 tests +ve in Cachar on Monday; 7 more deaths registered at SMCH
Sept. 7: On Monday, Cachar district registered 85 new cases of novel coronavirus. Out of the 85 fresh cases, 84 of them were detected positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, only one was found positive in the district in RT-PCR test. It needs mention here that on Sunday, 84 persons tested positive in Cachar.
Though the decline in number of new cases of COVID-19 is a good sign, yet the fact remains that when more tests are done, the number of positive cases becomes more and vice versa. One is proportionally related with the other. But on an optimistic note, this could well be some indication of the beginning of the declining graph. graph. From now onwards COVID test can be done only in 4 centres in Silchar. These are: Holy Cross School, Teachers Training College, Urban PHC and ISBT. The 28 centres opened in the municipal wards were discontinued due to poor attendance.
In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) said that in the last 24 hours, 142 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 419 persons were collected. 681 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 48 of them tested positive. Further, 247 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 18 were found positive.
Apart from this, 24 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 18 were discharged. At present, there are 201 active patients at SMCH,out of which, 16 are admitted in ICU and 1 in ventilation. 22 patients are now in critical condition. Another 26 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 86 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 186 patients.
Dr. Gupta further informed that 7 patients died at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 6 are from Cachar district and 1 from Karimganj district. As of now, there were 117 COVID related deaths in SMCH. Of the 117 deaths, 43 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
