73 tests +ve in Cachar on Tuesday, 3 more deaths at SMCH
Oct. 6: On Tuesday, a total of 73 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Cachar. During the day,1305 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 55 persons were found positive, whereas 18 persons were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Tuesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 9,471. It needs mention here that 53 persons were found positive in Cachar on Monday.
As per the data provided till Monday by the District Health Department, 7394 patients were discharged. At present, there are 1430 active cases. Further, the district witnessed 34 Covid deaths. There were a total of 3947 patients who were in home isolation, out of which 2771 were discharged and 1176 are still active.
In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Tuesday said that in the last 24 hours, 152 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 648 persons were collected. 582 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 16 of them tested positive. Further, 293 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 06 were found positive.
Apart from this, 08 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 10 were discharged. At present, there are 110 active patients at SMCH, out of which, 22 are admitted in ICU and 05 in ventilation. 22 patients are now in critical condition. Another 18 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 202 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 383 patients.
Dr. Gupta further informed that in the last 24 hours, 3 patients died due to COVID-19 at SMCH. All of them are from Cachar. As of now, there were 152 COVID related deaths in SMCH. Of the 152 deaths, 61 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
In what seems to be a silver lining in Cachar district at this hour of the pandemic is that the doubling time has now increased to 45 days. Apart from this, the positivity rate has also declined to 3.2 percent.
In the social media post, District Administration Cachar wrote, “Doubling time of Covid positive cases has increased to 45 days from hitherto 07 days with tireless efforts of doctors, nurses, technicians, cleaners, administration, police and community support. Request public to kindly cooperate to ensure no other family has to lose a dear one to Covid.” In another post, the Cachar District Administration stated, “With an average of 2800 tests conducted per day for the last 10 days , sample positivity rate has further declined to 3.2%. Request public to coordinate accordingly to ensure no other spikes.”
