Barak Valley registers 171 Covid-19 +ve cases on Thursday; 2 deaths in Cachar

Active cases 777 in Barak Valley

April 28: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 145 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Barak Valley registered 154 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 108 positive cases   (It was also 119 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 46 positive cases (It was 26 on  Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 17 positive cases (It was 09 on Wednesday)

The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 108 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Thursday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 555. As per the updated data, a total of 1,775 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 70 persons were found positive, whereas 38 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Thursday night.With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 12,647. Again, 11,948 patients till now were cured and discharged.

On Thursday, Amal Das (50) of Ashram Road, Silchar died at 1.15 PM on 29 April, 2021. During the day, another patient Sandhya Bhattacharjee (84) of Athal Basti in Cachar breathed her last SMCH at 10.45 AM on 29 April.

Hailakandi reported 17 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,480. Of the 17 active cases detected on Thursday, 16 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test. Results of 353 samples are being awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The district has altogether 75 active COVID-19 cases while 3,382 patients have recuperated from the disease. 18 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, one at Silchar Medical College and Hospital and 56 kept under home isolation. The district has accounted for nine COVID deaths in the first wave of the pandemic.

On Thursday, out of 1,362 Covid tests done, 46 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. This is highest single day spike in Covid cases in the district this year.  Further, during the day, 15 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 147 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, 26 persons were found positive in the district.

On Thursday, out of 67,278 tests, 3,079 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,49,926. The positivity rate in the state is 4.58 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,029 positive cases during the day. Further, 26 more persons lost their lives in the state on Wednesday due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,281. This is the highest single-day deaths recorded in Assam in 2021. It needs mention here that on Wednesday, 3,045 persons tested positive in Assam and 22 deaths were registered. On Thursday, 1,797 patients were discharged in Assam.

Further, during the day, 26 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day figures in the state this year. Out of the 26 deceased, 15 are from Kamrup Metro, 03 from Jorhat; 2 from Cachar and 1 each from Bongaingaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji and Kokhrajhar. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,281.
