65-year rape & murder accused shot by Assam Police while trying to flee

July 2: A 65-year-old man identified as Sayed Ali  was arrested by Assam Police on allegation of rape and murder of a minor girl at Balidunga village under Bhuragaon police station in Morigaon district. The dead body of the minor girl was found in a field near the Brahmaputra River on 20 June. However, the accused absconded only to be arrested by the police on 28 June.

As per police sources, the accused Sayed Ali was taken for reconstruction of the scene of crime, when he tried to flee from the police custody under garb of answering nature’s call. Police resorted to two rounds of firing and he was injured. He has been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
