6 persons including a college teacher involved in instigating violence at Darrang, CBI inquiry ordered: HBS
Sept. 25: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters in Guwahati on Saturday that the government has received information that certain elements were involved in instigating violence during the eviction drive in the Dhalpur area of Assam’s Darrang district in which two civilians were killed and nine policemen were injured during an anti-encroachment drive.
“Evidence is now emerging indicating certain people including a lecturer from one college of Assam being involved. So, all these things are emerging and the government is enquiring,” said Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. He further stated that “We have ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter and we have to find out who has mobilised 10,000 people even after a clear agreement with the organisation that the eviction will happen peacefully.”
Interacting with the media, the Chief Minister said, “From the poor, landless families certain people have collected Rs. 28 lakh saying that they are going to convince the government and there will be no eviction. We have the evidence. When they could not register a case against the eviction drive they mobilised these people and created havoc on that particular day,” said Dr Sarma.
