National Webinar on ‘Musings on the Body’ to be organised by Deptt of English, AUS
July 27: The Department of English, Assam University, Silchar, is organising a two-day webinar titled ‘Musings on the Body’ during 13-14 August, 2020. The webinar intends to focus on issues/ questions pertaining to the body like the manipulation that we always seem to subject it to, its very iconography, its cultural representation, and so on. The four sessions of the two-day webinar have the following topics:
- Engendering the Body: A Broad Review of the Body in Feminist Theory – Dr. Mathangi Krishnamoorthy, IIT, Madras
- Masculinity and the Body – Prof. Niladri R Chatterjee, University of Kalyani
- Heteronormativity and the Politics of Cultural Appropriation: ‘Gurma Naach’, an Androgynous Dance Form – Prof. Dipendu Das, Assam University
- The ‘Disabled’ Body: Cultural and Literary Constructions – Prof. Banibrata Mahanta, Banaras Hindu University
