4 more deaths registered in last 24 hours at SMCH

September 1: The coronavirus pandemic has now led to a procession of death also in Barak Valley. Since the last few days, the valley witnessed many deaths, although all of them were not certified as COVID-19 deaths. However, this also cannot be ruled out that all of them were infected with coronavirus. Those COVID positive persons who die due to comorbidities are usually not certified as ‘Covid-19’ death by the audit board.

On Tuesday, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that in the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 4 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Out of the 4 deceased, 2 are from Cachar, 1 from Karimganj & 1 from Hailakandi. The 4 deceased were identified as:

  • Basanti Das (90) from Rangirkhari Silchar was admitted in SMCH at 10.50 PM on 23 August. She breathed her last at 10.20 PM on 31 August. Her death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
  • Gopika Dey (65 years male) from Bhaga in Dholai, Cachar got admitted in SMCH at 9.25 PM on 26 August. He, however, died at 11.56 PM on 31 August. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
  • Himangshu Sengupta (75) from R.K. Nagar in Karimganj district was admitted in SMCH at 7.15 PM on 29 August. He succumbed to the infection at 10 AM on 1 September. His death was certified as Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
  • Motiur Rahman Laskar (52) from Boalipur in Hailakandi district was admitted in SMCH at 5.26 PM on 31 August. He died in the same night at 11.30. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
