Women’s College Silchar celebrate Int’l Womens Day organizing blood donation camp

March 8: Women’s College Silchar celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 with great spirit and enthusiasm.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the college organised an event to mark the occasion. Dr Sanghamitra Debnath, the programme officer of NSS unit of the college informed that following the tradition on this occasion, three senior teachers of the college who would soon be retiring from their services at the college including Vice-principal Dr Sutapa Sikidar, Dr Tripti Das and Mrs Lakhitombi Singha were felicitated.

The three teachers shared their thoughts on the occasion and greeted the students and the august gathering on the global occasion.

Noted social activist Sita Kannan, was the chief guest of the inaugural event. While speaking on the ocassion, Sita Kannan urged the students to live their life to the fullest amidst good chores. She also asked the students to inculcate the habit of regular physical exercises and positive thinking.

The inaugural event was followed up with a voluntary blood donation camp organised by the NSS Unit and Red Ribbon Club of the college in collaboration with Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum and Cachar Cancer Hospital in which as many as 25 donors including veterans and students donated blood with great enthusiasm. According to the Forum members, there were some first-time donors as well.

Dr Manoj Kumar Paul, principal of the college who is also the Cachar district president of the voluntary blood donors forum started the proceedings for blood donation for the day making his 45th blood donation, said that it is a very emotional moment for him. He conveyed his wishes to the teaching non-teaching fraternity and to all the students on the occasion and said that women, even from this part of the country are making significant strides in the preset day world setting examples before the society which is a matter of inspiration. Urging the students to come forward and donate blood voluntariliy, Dr Paul said that the misconceptions related to blood donation can be wiped off with more participation from the society.

To enthuse the donors and the workforce executing the drive, Dr Kumar Kanti Das, popularly known as Dr Laxman Das, president of the central committee of the voluntary blood donors forum attended and shared his valuable thoughts. Dr Das underscored the fact that the only way to get blood is to donate blood.

Karunamoy Paul, general secretary of Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum, Sabyasachi Rudra Gupta, district committee general secretary of the forum, Sikta Paul, Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum womens wing, Deboshmita Biswas, general secretary of the forum’s women’s wing, Neha Chakraborty, the media secretary of the women’s wing, Sujoy Nath, central committee media secretary of the forum and Shibam Das also attended the proceedings of the camp.
