3 seriously injured in head on collision between scooty & bike at Meherpur on Thursday night
Jan. 13: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has been very vocal and also adopted severe measures to see that accidents don’t occur during the days of festivals. However, inspite of this, a major road mishap occurred at Silchar town on Thursday night in which three youths were seriously injured.
As per reports, a head-on collision between a motor biike and a scooty took place at Meherpur area of Silchar near Nightingale Hospital in which 3 persons sustained grave injuries. The incident took place at around 11.40 PM. The two on scooty were identified as Raj Debnath and Shivam Roy, both of whom are staff of Sudipta Nursing Home. As per preliminary information, Raj has broken his right hand and Shivam has sustained major head injury. Both of them were at once taken to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) by the passers-by. The boy on the bike, whose identity could not be ascertained till the filing of this report was also learnt to be serious. He was also taken to SMCH.
Meanwhile, those who took the injured to SMCH alleged of very poor emergency service at SMCH. Inspite of their best efforts, they stated that they could manage only one stretcher. They said, “The emergency section at SMCH was running with only skeletal staff and almost none was their to offer services. Somehow we managed to admit the injured at SMCH.”
Till the filing of this report, it could not be ascertained whether it is a normal accident or one which occured due to ;drink and drive.’
