2nd escape bid by accused in Bangladeshi woman gang rape case, shot by police
June 3: One of the accused in the gangrape case of Bangladeshi woman attempted to flee from the hands of the cops, but was later caught after a shoot out. Police claimed that the accused attempted to flee with a knife in hand, but was shot in the leg and nabbed. This is the 2nd bid to escape by an accused since the last week’s failed attempt. The accused has now been hospitalised with a bullet injury in the leg. The man is said to be the prime accused in the case.
Earlier, the video of the woman’s torture and gang rape went viral following which police pursued the case. The viral video showing a young woman being brutally assaulted, gang-raped and a glass bottle shoved into her private parts sparked massive outrage across the country. Ten persons have already been arrested in the gang rape case. Police said there are more people on their radar right now in the case. The police said that the woman was brought to Bengaluru on the pretext of a job but later on forced into prostitution.
Two accused made a thwarted 1st attempt to flee on 28 May. Police opened fire and the two were then shot at in their legs. This happened when they were taken at the spot of the crime for scene reconstruction.
