2nd death due to COVID-19 reported on Saturday

July 11: A woman identified as Shanta Asharjee (40), a COVID-19 positive case, who is also a patient with history of pneumonia,type-2 diabetes, Hypothyroidism and admitted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). She succumbed to her infection on Saturday. 

Sharing this information, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet wrote, “Very sad to share that Smt Shanta Asharjee (40),a #COVID patient with history of pneumonia,type-2 diabetes, Hypothyroidism and admitted at GMCH, succumbed to her infection today. My deepest condolences. Death Audit Board to ascertain whether underlying cause of death is COVID19.”

Earlier during the day, another person lot his life due to COVID-19. Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet expressed sorrow to inform that one Nripen Debnath (55), a COVID-19 patient with history of kidney ailment, who came incubated & ventilated, and was admitted in Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) ICU, passed away early in the morning on 11 July, 2020. With this, the COVID-19 death tally of Assam has gone upto 37.
