Instead of 5 years term, post of college principal to be upto one’s retirement

Dec. 14: As per the existing Assam College Provincialised Act, the post of College Principals shall be for a term of 5 years, which may be extended for another term of 5 years. The fixed tenure resulted in various complications. Hence, the state government has now decided to amend the existing rules and instead of 5-year term, the post of College Principal will be upto one’s retirement whosoever becomes Principal. This was said by Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, Advisor, Department of Education, Govt of Assam on Tuesday during the 66th Annual General Conference of Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) at Nagaon Girls’ College, Nagaon.

Dr Mahanta further stated that the matter has also been discussed with Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and he too assured to make changes in the tenure of the post of Principal.
