200 trucks are on their way from Guwahati to Barak Valley carrying relief materials: Guardian Minister

May 19: On Thursday morning, Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal came to Silchar in an IAF’s cargo aircraft with relief materials to be distributed to the flood-affected people of Cachar district. He also participated in a review meeting held today at the DRDA Hall, Silchar, with all the Heads of various Line departments in presence of MP Silchar Dr Rajdeep Roy, DC Keerthi Jalli, MLAs of Silchar- Dipayan Chakraborty, Mihir Kanti Shome of Udharbond and Kaushik Rai of Lakhipur to take stock of the grim flood situation in the district.

In the review meeting, the Guardian Ministed stated that 200 trucks were on their way from Guwahati to Barak Valley carrying relief materials. During the discussion, Minister Singhal asked the Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Ashutosh Barman to take necessary steps for arrangement of ambulance service in case, if anyone is found seriously ill in the relief camps. In the said meeting, APDCL officials informed that power supply to 1,350 transformers in the district has been temporarily suspended to avoid accidents due to rising water level.

In a separate meeting with the district administration authorities of Barak Valley, Minister Singhal said that the districts have got enough sufficient stock of essential commodities.He further asked Cachar administration to take strict action as per the law, if any trader is found to be engaged in malpractices.

Minister Singhal also advised the traders of the three districts to follow the instructions of Deputy Commissioners and asked the administration to take strict measures to curb black marketing. He directed the LPG distributors to distribute the cylinders as per rules. The minister said that the LPG distributors would be held responsible if any any of them is found guilty. Minister Singhal also urged the people of Barak valley not to buy excess goods and store them at their home. He asked the functionaries of the Merchant Association to inform their sub-dealers that there is no crisis. Minister Singhal asked the top officials to take precautionary measures to prevent minor incidents which could provoke public outcry in the event of floods.
