1711 people arrested & 14,350 vehicles seized for lockdown violation in Assam

April 17: To beat the deadly coronavirus and break its cycle, social distancing is the only way out at present in the absence of any vaccine or specific treatment. Keeping this aspect in mind, the lockdown was enhanced in India by another 19 days. However, during Lockdown 2.0, people seemed to be less responsible in many parts of Assam and loiter in the streets. Such instances of lockdown violation was reported from several districts of Assam.

As on 16 April, a total of 1675 incidents of lockdown violation took place in Assam. A total of 893 cases were registered in this connection in the state in which 1711 people were arrested and 14,350 vehicles were seized. Further, 19 boats were also detained.  An amount of Rs. 65,84,900/ was collected till 16 April as fine for violation of lockdown.

Assam Police has appealed time and again not to come out of the houses until there is any compelling necessity. In a social media post, Assam Police wrote, “We request citizens to strictly adhere to #Lockdown2 guidelines and help us in keeping everyone safe. We request citizens to follow #Lockdown guidelines.”
