85 tests positive in Cachar on Tuesday, 35 patients under oxygen support at SMCH

Sept. 15: On Tuesday, the number of novel coronavirus patients was again below hundred. A total of 85 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Cachar district. During the day, a total of 1260 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, 72 were found positive, whereas 13 were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Tuesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 7,867 till now. It needs mention here that 83 persons were found positive in Cachar on Monday.

The District Media Expert also informed that a 10-point self assessment to be made by the people was issued by the Cachar district Joint Director of Health. In the assessment, people will have to mark the score in between the range of 0 to 2. A score of 4 or more indicates that the person is at a higher risk for COVID-19. He/she needs to get himself/herself tested at the nearest COVID screening centre voluntarily. Suman Choudhury further informed that certain restrictions were imposed by Cachar district administration in order to curb the further spread of coronavirus. Movement of more than three persons in a group on the roads on Mahalaya morning is restricted. Assembling of crowd at any place will not be allowed. However, people can move on the roads in small groups comprising maximum three persons. Wearing of masks and maintaining physical distancing have been made mandatory on both the occasions. The order also stated that people will not be allowed to roam about or gather on both the bridges (old and new) located at Sadarghat from from 9:00 PM of 16 September till 6:00 AM of 18 September. Entry will be strictly restricted at these bridges for preventing gathering.

In his daily briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Tuesday said that in the last 24 hours, 228 persons were screened at SMCH. Throat swab of another 740 persons were collected. 709 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, out of which, 11 of them tested positive. Further, 173 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done at SMCH in the last 24 hours, out of which, 08 were found positive.

Apart from this, 07 new patients of COVID-19 were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 25 were discharged. At present, there are 162 active patients at SMCH,out of which, 16 are admitted in ICU and 01 in ventilation. 25 patients are now in critical condition. Another 35 patients are now under oxygen support. Further, 123 persons have donated plasma which was administered upon 230 patients.

Dr. Gupta further informed that in the last 24 hours, no person have died at SMCH due to COVID-19. As of now, there were 131 COVID related deaths in SMCH. Of the 131 deaths, 54 of them were certified by the State Death Audit Board as COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
