14 new +ve cases in Hailakandi, tally rises to 336

July 5: South Assam’s Hailakandi district detected 14 more COVID-19 novel coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, taking the total tally to 336, including two deaths.

Health authorities here revealed that Baharul Islam Laskar, 20, Rofikuddin Talukdar, 28, Bilaluddin Laskar, 27, Nizamuddin Barbhuiya, 32, Sarifuddin Laskar, 25, Abdul Hamid Laskar, 20, Badrul Islam 24, Ali Ahmed Laskar, 32, Nimaz Hussain Laskar, 23, Sabir Ahmed Laskar, 32, Saddam Hussain Laskar, 20, Jiabuddin Laskar, 34, Jakir Hussain Mazarbhuiya, 49, and Abdul Mannaf Barbhuiya, 21, all turned out to be positive.

Of the 14 infected, five were under institutional quarantine facility at DIET, two at B.Ed College, one at Model School and five at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya quarantine centres while one under home quarantine at Kanchanpur Pt 1.

Following the sudden spike in number of COVID-19 positive cases, the district administration has closed down all barber shops, parlours and weekly markets with immediate effect until further orders.

Five persons without travel history, including a nurse, a head constable and a barber were found COVID-19 positive in the district. Vigorous contact tracing and swab collection of persons with whom they came in contact are on.
Meanwhile, the administration has declared seven new containment zones following detection of COVID-19 cases namely Dey’s Cold Storage in which two employees tested positive, under Ward No.1 of Hailakandi revenue circle, Appin RA under Katlicherra revenue circle, Ratanpur Part I under Hailakandi revenue circle, Sudarshanpur Part I under Hailakandi revenue circle, Algapur Part I under Algapur revenue circle, Panchgram village under Algapur revenue circle and Chandipur Grant-Bagmara under Hailakandi revenue circle on Friday evening. One more containment zone is likely to come up at Kanchanpur Part I. The number of containment, buffer zones in the district as of now is 21.

Two COVID-19 positive patients viz., Mangoli Rani Das, 53, and Foijul Haque Barbhuiya, 65, breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 235 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals. There are 84 active cases, as per the health bulletin released on Saturday evening.

Of the 8,892 swab samples taken so far, 7,074 turned out to be negative. Swab results of 1,315 are awaited. 1,095 persons are under facility quarantine centres while 4,059 persons under home quarantine.
