127 road accidents & 17 burn cases reported in Assam during Diwali
October 29: Diwali the festival of lights has got an other side of the picture also. Almost every year many instances of burn cases while bursting fire crackers are reported. As per data provided by the Mrityunjoy service (108), 17 burn cases were reported from various parts of the state. Out of the 17, Udalguri topped the list with six cases followed by Kamrup (M) with three cases.
Apart from the burn cases, the Mrityunjoy service (108) provided data for 127 road accidents in the state on the occasion of Diwali. To top the list were Kamrup (M) and Kamrup where there were 16 cases of road accidents. The second slot was occupied by Dhemaji, where 13 accidents were reported. Barpeta recorded 10 accidents whereas 8 were reported from Sonitpur.
Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Golaghat recorded 7 accidents each and five accidents each were reported from Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dhubri and Baksa. Four accidents occured in Dibrugarh and Nagaon while Goalpara and Bongaigaon reported 3 cases each. Two accidents each were reported from Udalguri, Cachar and Chirang district, whereas Kokrajhar, Darrang and Tinsukia have one case each.
The overall tally of road accidents and burn cases in the state may be high as because the data provided here is only that received from Mrityunjoy 108 service.
