Jookto supports 2-day gala event ‘Celebrating Northeast’ in Delhi

December 17: Jookto supported the North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) in organising the two-day grand event “Celebrating Northeast” in New Delhi on 15 and 16 December, 2018 in New Delhi. The event highlighted the strength of culture of the various states of North East India with the various dance and vocals from the region and also a fashion show displaying some talented designers.

The event also witnessed live performances by renowned singers Zubeen Garg and Priyanka Bharali. Ranjit Gogoi performed with his Bihu team. Dance troupes from Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya enthralled the audience with their traditional performances.

However, for the first time artists from Barak valley also performed in a North East festival in Delhi and folk sensation Tandra Roy mesmerized the audience with her folk songs accompanied by Tirthankar Das on dotara. They made an impact as the dignitaries and the audience in the cold winter night of 15 December at the stage in the DLF Mall in Saket were applauding as she rent the air with her high pitch melody.

JOOKTO in its mission to connect Barak valley to the rest of the country again stepped forward here to organise this platform so that Barak Valley could represent itself at the national level event. Since the last 3 years, Jookto has been organising such ventures and recently had roped in Switzerland embassy to host film screenings at Silchar. Earlier, Jookto organised their ‘Cololurs of Barak’ festival in Delhi where artists of the valley performed songs and dance.

His Excellency, the Ambassador of Thailand to India Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi and His Excellency Mr. A.T.M. Rokebul Haque, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India attended the event including some from the other foreign missions. Besides them, many government officials from the central government and the state government also attended the event. The EM Tourism of Dima Hasao District Council was also there encouraging the artists.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India besides a number of state governments from the North East region and public sector undertakings like ONGC, OIL, NTPC and others.
