Centenary celebrations of SM Dev Civil hospital concludes in Silchar
Dec 2: Minister Environment and Forest Parimal Suklabaidya said that a flurry of actions are being undertaken to upgrade SM Dev Civil hospital to a 300-bedded hospital.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations of SM Dev Civil Hospital in Silchar here on Monday, the Minister citing Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, Shuklabaidya said that carrying forward the true spirit of Health Minister’s statement, SM Dev Civil Hospital will soon be converted into a 300 beded hospital.
He said that once the Health Minister had said that Silchar Civil Hospital would be upgraded to a 300-bedded hospital. Now his announcement will be materialized in letter and spirit. Not only this, the doctors studying in Silchar Medical College will be able to concentrate on their studies also as the 300-bedded Civil Hospital will lessen the pressure from Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Minister Shuklabaidya, who was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, said the senerio in health sector has changed radically since the BJP led government came to power in 2016. He also said that works are going on in full swing to build six more medical colleges and hospitals in the state. Works are in advanced stage to build AIIMS in Assam. Mentioning these, the Minister said that there is lot of pressure on Silchar Medical College & Hospital. For that reason, the physicians who are studying remain busy treating the patients. In this case, if the infrastructure of the civil hospital is improved, the pressure on Silchar Medical College Hospital will be reduced a lot. He mentioned that the government is trying to provide health services to every citizen.
The month-long centenary celebrations of the SM Dev Civil Hospital in Silchar came to an end on Monday. The dignitaries present on the dias cut the cake on the occasion of the centenary at a meeting held at the hospital premises after the Manglik ceremony and lighting of lamps. On this occasion souvenir ‘Garbo’ was unveiled. This was unveiled by Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya, MLA of Silchar and Chairman of Civil Hospital Management Committee Dilip Kumar Paul, Chairman of Centenary Celebration Committee, Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli IAS , Additional Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, in charge of Health Department Sumit Sattawan IAS. Principal of Silchar Medical College Dr Babul Bezbaruah, including Dr. Sudip Jyoti Das, Dr. Ashutosh Barman, Joint Director of Health, Hailakandi District, Dr. Jiten Singh Hazari, Superintendent, Silchar Civil Hospital. Dr. Abhijit Swamy, Superintendent, Silchar Medical College Hospital also participated in the function.
In his welcome address, Dr. Jiten Singh Hazari narrated the history of the hospital. Dilip Kumar Paul, MLA ,Silchar, chairman of the hospital’s management committee, said that from the journey “kaya-kalpa” to the treatment of covid patients – the doctors and health workers of SM Dev Civil hospital had worked tirelessly in all areas. Many people have applied for admission to Silchar Civil Hospital after being diagnosed positive due to Corona virus. From this it is understood that in these few years, the civil hospital has been able to gain the trust of the people. He mentioned that this hospital has become the best in the state in “kaya-kalpa”, which has been made possible by the combined efforts of all. He also mentioned about the glorious past of Ayurveda in the Indian medical system.
Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar and the president of the hospital management committee described the centenary celebrations of SM Dev Civil Hospital as memorable event. While delivering her speech on the occasion she mentioned that she took charge as Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on May 9 this year when corona infection was at its peak. Under such circumstances, she visited the Civil Hospital on May 11 to upgrade it to a Covid hospital. The Deputy Commissioner also said that the centenary celebration is not just a centenary celebration of a building or a brick-and-stone structure, the sweat,hard toil,self sacrifice of many people are involved in building an organisation and that must be remembered.
Joint Director Health,Cachar, Dr Sudip jyoti Das urged the doctors and staff to work together to achieve the state’s best award “kaya kalpa”once again ,while joint Director of Health,Hailakandi, Dr Ashutosh Barman also echoed the same . He was also the superintendent of Silchar Civil Hospital and during his tenure, Silchar Civil was awarded the best in the state for kaya kalpa.
On this day, all the doctors and medical staff who were involved with Silchar Civil hospital on the journey towards centenary were also remembered. Besides, felicitations were also given to the former doctors, nurses and cleaners of the hospital. Former Superintendent of Silchar Civil Hospital Dr. Vijayalakshmi Das and Dr. Bibhutibhushan Bhattacharya along with doctors Dr. Shishir Kumar Biswas, Dr. Sadhan Kumar Paul, Dr. Amitabh Bhattacharya, Dr. Abed Rasul Majumder, Dr. BC Roy, Dr. Retired nurses Nilima Nath, Ratna Bhattacharjee, Swapna Bhattacharjee, Shivani Biswas, Anjali, Indrani Sinha, Chhaya Shil, two retired clerks Kamakhya Chakraborty and Shaibal Saha were given the felicitation.
